A BOHO BEDROOM MAKEOVER

BEFORE

Selena was interested in a quick, low commitment and high impact makeover: she didn't want the hassle of repainting walls nor doing electrical work. She wanted to keep the big ticket furniture items (wardrobe and ottoman bed), and was open to keeping her big chest of drawers, though she would've preferred changing it if possible within the budget. We had a couple of calls to discuss her needs, understand her style, the way she lives the room and the way she wants to experience it, and how this new environment could support the lifestyle she is embracing. We also understood what level of support she wanted throughout this makeover: she decided to go all out except for renovations that would involve changing the structure of the room or calling third party contractors. Her package included: -making a rough 3D model of her room, to play around with different layout options and help visualise them. -a short presentation that summarises her needs, style and inspiration photos that would be our north star. Think of it as a sort of a moodboard. These were selected after a back and forth of pinterest and instagram references. -after the layout was decided, I made some rough mockups in photoshop to show selena more in detail what the direction of the room was going to: this allowed us to nail down the basic options for curtains, plant and accessories style ecc. Once we were happy with our common understanding of the direction we wanted to take the room in, I flew to Rome and looked after the makeover myself. One request she had was to procure most of the material by going to physical shops and hand picking them. This involves a level of improvisation and willingness to pivot depending on what we could materially find (for example, she would've loved a big round carpet, but we pivoted to a large rectangular one). Our compromise was to only buy the new chest of drawers online, and then go around the shops together for everything else.
